Derek Fan is the Deputy Head of U.S. Institutional and Head of U.S. Institutional Client & Consultant Relations at Franklin Templeton. He oversees relationships with investment consultants and key institutional clients across the United States, with a focus on long-term partnership, disciplined engagement and close coordination with investment teams.
Prior to his current role Derek spent more than 15 years at Western Asset Management Company in senior institutional distribution and relationship management positions. Most recently he served as Head of U.S. Institutional Client Service & Marketing, with responsibility for institutional client relationships, consultant relations, product management and marketing. Previously, as Head of Consultant Relations, he led the firm’s consultant engagement strategy, serving as a senior point of contact for consultant research teams and leadership, supporting due-diligence processes, and aligning investment capabilities with client governance and fiduciary objectives.
Earlier in his career, Derek held institutional relationship management roles at both Western Asset and Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO), where he served as a Vice President and Institutional Account Manager.
Derek has more than 18 years of investment management industry experience. He earned an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and graduated cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
